FAMU'S EL-AMIN FIRST-EVER HBCU QUALIFIER FOR NCAAS

On Friday, Florida A&M junior Mujahid El-Amin became the first swimmer ever from a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to qualify for NCAA Division One championship competition with his winning performance in the 100-yard butterfly.

The inaugural CCSA Swimming Championships concluded on Saturday, with Florida A&M's Men's Swim Team capturing several awards.Florida A&M's Dr. E. Newton Jackson Jr. earned male diving coach of the year, while Florida A&M junior Mujahid El-Amin earned men's outstanding swimmer honors.

Florida A&M's Mujahid El-Amin earned his second gold medal in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championship Friday, turning in an NCAA qualifying time in the 100-yard butterfly.

El-Amin, a 6-0 junior from East Atlanta's W.D. Mohammed High School, swam an impressive 48.17 in the men's 100-yard butterfly, earning him an NCAA Division I B cut time in the event. The B cut standard is 48.50

The inaugural CCSA swimming championship began Thursday, Feb. 21 with the men's and women's 500-yard freestyle preliminaries. Leading the way in the women's competition was Gardner-Webb's Heather Roka and Lizzy Ketterer, who finished in times of 4:58.40 and 4:49.70, respectively.

Florida A&M's William McKnight captured first place in the one-meter diving competition here Friday afternoon during the opening session of a dual swim meet with the College of Charleston.

McKnight finished first overall with 152 points.
