ORLANDO, Fla. - In game three, the University of Central Florida baseball team completed the sweep of the Florida A&M baseball team in a 17-2, here Sunday afternoon at Jay Bergman Field.
FAMU (0-3) as a team finished with five hits, while UCF (3-0) pounded out 16 hits.
The Rattlers had five players to finish with one hit each in Timothy Schalch, Thaddous McBurrows, Jarried Jeffries, Darryl Evans and Adam Gordon.The Knights were paced by Chris Duffy with three hits.
Mitch Harold (1-0) got the win for UCF giving up five hits, two earned runs and striking out six in five inning of work, while Drew Cook (0-1) took the loss for FAMU giving up seven hits, four earned runs and striking out two in five innings of work.
The Knights grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first as Colin Arnold's RBI single scored Josh Siebenaler, giving UCF a 1-0 lead.
Shane Brown increased UCF's lead in the bottom of the second inning by scoring on a passed ball. Then Tim Russell would score on Siebenaler's RBI double, making the score 3-0 in favor of the Knights.
UCF plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth as Rob Lara scored on a Tyson Auer sacrifice fly to center field, followed by a Chris Duffy single scoring Siebenaler, increasing the Knights' lead to 5-0.
FAMU picked up a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning as Jared Jeffries scored on an Adam Gordon single, followed by a Timothy Schalch single scoring Darryl Evans, cutting UCF's lead to 5-2.
Shane Brown added to the Knights' lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring on a Laraâ€TMs sacrifice fly to left field, making the score 6-2.
The Knights picked two more runs in the bottom of sixth inning. A Duffy's RBI single scored Bailey, then Colin Arnold would score on Chadd Hartman's bases-loaded walk, giving UCF an 8-2 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, UCF picked up six runs, giving them a 14-2 lead, as Auer scored on an Arnold single, followed by Duffy scoring on a Richards single. Arnold later scored on a FAMU wild pitch. A FAMU infielder's error would score Matt Lambert, followed by a two-run homer by Hartmann.
The Knights picked up three more runs in the bottom of the eighth on Kyle Mills' single scoring Bailey. Mills and Arnold would both score later on a Lambert two-run single, for the 17-2 final.
The Rattlers will return to action this Thursday against Concordia College in Selma, Ala., in a 3 p.m. start.
