LADY RATTLERS SWEEPS JACKSON STATE, 4-3, 2-1



Tiffany Chan homers in game one to lift Lady Rattlers past Jackson State, Tuesday afternoon

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida A&M Softball Team picked up a pair of wins as they swept, Southwestern Athletic Conference foe, Jackson State in a double-header, 4-3 and 2-1, here Tuesday afternoon at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex.

In game one, FAMU (6-21) finished with five hits, led by Tiffany Chan with two hits and a homer, followed by Rhiana Green and Nikki Terryn, who both finished with one hit piece.

JSU (7-18) garnered three hits with Amanda Boggan, Ebony Stevenson and Carsheena Blanks collecting one hit each.

Chan (3-10) got the win for the Lady Rattlers, by going the distance, giving up two earned runs and striking out two in seven innings of work, while Jessica Villegas (2-9) took the loss for the Lady Tigers, giving up four earned runs and five hits in six innings of work.

FAMU scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie and to take the lead. A Terryn single up the middle, would score both Chan and Green, followed by a Joyce Harold RBI grounder scoring Shayla Clark, giving the Lady Rattlers a 3-0 lead.

JSU would score three runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3. An Amanda Boggan single scored Blanks. Boggan would then score on a Villegas fielder's choice RBI, followed by a Stevenson sacrifice RBI scoring Ray Williams.

A Chan walk off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning would give the Lady Rattlers the 4-3 win.

In game two, FAMU finished with six hits, led by both Chan and Harold, who both finished with two hits apiece.

JSU tallied four hits with Boggan, Stevenson, Blanks and Brittany Gaines finishing with one hit each.

Melissa Oliphant (2-1) picked up the win for the Lady Rattlers, giving up four hits in eight innings of work, while Brittanie Talley (3-8) took the loss for the Lady Tigers, giving up six hits and striking out six in seven innings of work.

The Lady Rattlers took the early lead in the bottom of the second as Harold doubled to center field scoring Melissa Oliphant, giving FAMU a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers would the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning as Boggan scored on a Farren Wright RBI grounder to third.

In extra innings, FAMU scored their final run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Oliphant scored on a JSU infielder's error for the 2-1 final.

FAMU will return to action on Saturday in a double-header against Savannah State in a 1 p.m. start at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex.
