TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida A&M Softball team dropped a doubleheader to North Florida, 6-0, and 6-1, here Wednesday afternoon at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex.
In the opening game, FAMU (8-25) collected four hits with Melissa Oliphant leading with two hits, while Tiffany Chan and Ashley Bell finished with one hit apiece.
UNF (26-15) tallied nine hits with Ashley Parenteau, Ashley Battaglia and Caroline Torre, all finished with two hits each.
Melissa Oliphant (3-3) took the loss for the Lady Rattlers, going the distance giving up four earned runs and nine hits in seven innings of work, while Devyn Findley (15-7) got the win for the Lady Ospreys, giving up four hits and striking out a career high 12 batter in seven innings of work.
In the top of the first inning, a Gwen Williams' two-run single scored both Ashley Parenteau and Heather Hyde, then Williams would score on a Ashley Battaglia single, giving UNF a 3-0 lead.
The Lady Ospreys picked up a run in the top of the third inning and scored two more runs in the top of the sixth inning for the 6-0 final.
In game two, FAMU finished with six hits, while UNF pounded out 12 hits.
The Lady Rattlers were paced by Joyce Harold with two hits, followed by Nikki Terryn, Ashley Smith, Ashley Bell and Unika McIntosh, all with one hit.
The Lady Ospreys were led by both Gwen Williams and Laura Williams, who finished with two hits each.
UNF grabbed the early lead in the top of the first on a Hyde RBI single scoring Parenteau, giving the Lady Ospreys a 1-0 lead,
The Lady Ospreys scored three more runs in the top of the fifth as a Parenteau RBI triple scored Kacie McCloud. Then a pair of FAMU infielder's errors would allow both Parenteau and Hyde to score, increasing UNF's lead to 4-0.
UNF would score two more runs in the top of the seventh inning, to take a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning.
FAMU scored their only run of the game on an Ashley Bell single scoring Harold, who tripled, for the 6-1 final.
The Lady Rattlers will be back in action for a three-game series against Winston-Salem State in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, March 30 at Noon.
